What this beta calculates
Tax year 2026. Single, nondependent filers under 65, not blind, using standard deductions and no credits.
Federal income tax, conventional capital gains, NIIT and employee payroll taxes. New York full-year residents, with optional NYC residency.
NY taxable income up to $1,077,550. Recapture worksheets 7–8 are included. Higher-income profiles show unresolved combined estimates.
You can select every US state and filing status. Other states, years, statuses and local jurisdictions remain unsupported.
Assumptions behind your numbers
- Full-year forecasts, not filed returns. Salary, bonus and RSU compensation are covered Medicare and Social Security wages.
- No pretax contributions or benefits modeled. Enter gross wages; dividends are ordinary, not qualified, in this beta.
- Federal deduction: $16,100. New York deduction: $8,000. No NY additions, subtractions, exemptions or credits.
- Enter net realized short- and long-term gains, including applicable carry-in losses. Losses offset gains before the $3,000 ordinary-income limit.
- Liquidation uses annual tax with a hypothetical sale minus annual tax without it. Withholding does not change liability.
- Retirement stays in Portfolio value, but is excluded from accessible proceeds. No withdrawal or penalty calculation is offered.
- Private-company equity is illiquid and excluded. Employee equity means vested, unrestricted public-company shares.
- RSU vest value belongs in taxable compensation; the shares need adjusted basis including that value. No automatic basis inference.
- Valuations are user-entered, not live quotes. Acquisition dates determine holding periods on the selected hypothetical sale date.
Not implemented
Broker connections, PDF parsing, live prices, trade execution, saved scenarios, vest schedules, reminders and tax filing are not available.
ISO, ESPP, AMT, wash sales, itemization, self-employment, special-rate gains, foreign income and part-year residency are not supported.
Missing adjusted basis or acquisition dates leave liquidation unresolved. Unsupported coverage never becomes an invented combined estimate.
